_ Welcome to bikepacking gear. Over the next few months
we’re hoping to develop a site dedicated to this increasingly popular and
exciting outdoor pursuit. You rides your bike, you camp wild, then you rides
your bike some more, what could be more fun? 2 nights out, 3, 4....?
Bikepacking differs slightly from other types of off-road bicycle touring in that the joy is being able to still hit the type of trails you would usually enjoy without the luggage. Steep rocky mountain paths, tight twisty woodland singletrack or your local network of bridleways, with a well thought out lightweight set-up nothing should be off limits.
Whilst you can have great fun sleeping on the side of a mountain in an orange survival bag, there is a vast array of specialist kit to let you sleep and ride further in far greater comfort. The internet is bursting with lightweight camping and backpacking retailers, but unless you know what you’re looking for it’s a bit of a gamble if they will really be much use for bikepacking. Not only is weight a priority, but equally pack size and suitability are a major consideration.
Our intentions aren’t to just bring you every product available from the camping world, but to stock a range of gear that we have researched, tested and know to be suitable for making your bikepacking adventures go as brilliantly as possible. The US has some innovative small scale companies pushing boundaries for lightweight bikepacking gear but with long delivery times, import duties and a climate/riding style that can be very different to our own, it’s always a bit daunting. If you look hard enough though there are now UK based companies, run by enthusiasts passionate about producing top quality gear that we hope to bring on board.
Until the websale infrastructure is live the site will be updated as a blog, detailing the trips and general day to day ponderings of kit obsessed bikepackers. There will also be pages for advice, kit lists, up and coming events, product reviews, our own range of luggage/tarps and maybe even some guided trips.
So keep your eye on the website over the next few months, hopefully you’ll be as excited as we are. If you have any photos or tales you would like to share then please drop us an email and we’ll be delighted to add them to the site. Similarly, if there is a range of products you would really like to be included then let us know.
